PS5 Troubleshooting
These are the most common reported issues when setting Zen up on a PlayStation 5.
Playing PS5 games requires just 2 methods. PS4 SPECIALITY or PS REMOTE PLAY. There is no third method, it's one or the other. Play a game without its correct method and your controller will disconnect every 8-10 minutes, disconnect straight away, or not boot the game at all.
If when booting a PS5 game and you get an error like the one below, PS4 SPECIALITY will not work with that game, so you will need to use the ONLINE REMOTE PLAY method instead.
Note: Most if not all PS4 games will work with the PS4 SPECIALITY method.
If a PS5 game plays longer than 10 minutes while using any GamePack or script, CONGRATULATIONS because you have successfully setup your Cronus Zen to work with PlayStation 5.
We're serious, that's it, you're good to go 🙂
Any disconnects after that point are your standard garden variety disconnections which can happen with any controller not using a Cronus.
COMPATIBLE PS5 GAMES
For your convenience, we've created a Google Sheet that lists all currently known PS5 games that support / don't support the PS4 SPECIALITY method.
While we do our best to keep this list updated and as accurate as possible, there may be errors so let us know if we need to make any corrections.
If your PS5 game does not support third-party PS4 controllers but has a PS4 version of the game available (example: Warzone), you will still be able to play the PS4 version of the game with your DUALSENSE controller using the PS4 SPECIALITY method without any disconnections.

CONTROLLER DISCONNECTS AFTER 8-10 MINUTES
This is what happens when you have not correctly setup the correct method for the game you are trying to play.
It will seem like the controller is working for a few minutes, but it will disconnect, or any scripts or GamePacks you're using will become super laggy and unresponsive after a few seconds/minutes.

PS5 DONGLE SOLD OUT
Unfortunately, we no longer manufacture the PS5 Dongle (required for PS4 SPECIALITY ) as the components needed are no longer available. We bought every chip and made as many as we could, sorry!
Not to worry, the HORI PS4 Mini-Pad does the same job as the PS5 Dongle. No difference, only cheaper and available to buy right now 🛒
You'll know if a license donor controller is not compatible with the game, or not setup correctly, your controller will disconnect immediately, or after 8-10 minutes.

*The Cronus Zen PS5 Dongle is no longer made as we're unable to source any more of the chips it uses. We also get asked if you can use "other dongles" and the answer is no. This is the only PS5 Dongle we ever made for this purpose. Note: The license donor controllers above do the exact same job as the PS5 Dongle, so don't worry you aren't losing any functionality.
WARNING
Rogue Amazon/eBay sellers are selling a "PS5 Dongle" that looks the same as the product we made, but it is in fact a cheap PC sound card.
PS REMOTE PLAY LAG
If you experience lag with the official PS Remote Play app, try Chiaki Software a very popular PS Remote Play alternative that is fast and easy to setup. Many community members have also offered the following tips for lag free PS5 gaming:
- Your console and PS Remote device should both be on the same wired network.
- If you are using a modern USB-C mobile device, use a USB-C GIGABIT ethernet adapter.
- Upload speed should be at least 5Mbps - but the higher the better.
- Ping/Latency is super important. Anything below 20ms is good. Bad ping = 💀
- Try another device - PS Remote Play may not work well for you on a Mac, but Android Chiaki may be the ticket.
